Support Diagnostic Package

Creating a support diagnostic package can also be done from FMOS Server Control Panel and within the Administration module (Administration > Tools > Support Diagnostic > Export).

FMOS provides a feature called diagnostic packages that can be used to troubleshoot system issues, including crashes, errors, and unexpected behavior. These packages can be created on any FMOS installation and transferred to FireMon Support for analysis.

Diagnostic packages are XZ-compressed tape archives (“tarballs”) encrypted with GPG using the fmos-diag key. This allows them to be transferred and stored securely without having to manage and exchange shared keys. The fmos-diag key has a lifetime of 5 years, and the public key is distributed in the fmos-util package. As long as you keep your machine up-to-date within a margin of a few years, there should never be any need to worry about keys.

Create a Diagnostic Package

To create a diagnostic package, complete the following steps.

  1. Use the command: fmos mkdiagpkg
  2. At the prompt, to enter a ticket number to help associate the package with an open support case. The value is free form, so any input will be accepted.

If you do not have an open case enter your organization's name.

Upon completion, a file named fmos-diag_timestamp.hostname.ticket.tar.xz.gpg will be created in the current working directory. This file is encrypted and can only be opened by FireMon staff.
