Step 2: Create the Image

  1. After uploading the VMDK file, go to Compute Engine > Images > Create Image.

  1. Enter a Name for the install.

  2. For Source, select Virtual disk (VMDK, VHD).

  3. For Virtual disk file, select the bucket and VMDK file that was uploaded.

  4. Operating system on the virual disk must be set to No operating system. Data only.

    FMOS is a closed operating system—the GCP tools cannot be installed on it. Without this setting, image creation will fail.

  5. The Cloud Build service account can be the default or a client-created account with the appropriate permissions.

  6. Family and Description are for your reference only.

  7. Select Create.

    It will take time for the image to be created – lab testing shows that this is 5-15 minutes on average.
