Password Reset: CLI

FMOS users can reset their passwords if lost or forgotten. To ensure a user can only reset his or her own password and not other users’ passwords, the user must have access to the e-mail address associated with the account.

Passwords can only be reset for FMOS user accounts that have an associated e-mail address. If a user did not associate an e-mail address with his or her account he or she will not be able to reset the password.

The password for an FMOS user can be reset using the CLI, either using the local console or remotely using SSH. A special user account, resetpassword is used to access the password reset tool on the CLI.

  1. Log in as the resetpassword user; a password is not required.

  2. At the Username prompt, type your FMOS username and press Enter.

  3. Launch your e-mail client and check for a new message with the subject FMOS: Password Reset Request.

  4. Open the message and copy the Authorization Code.

  5. Return to the FMOS CLI and type or paste the Authorization Code, then press Enter.

  6. Type a new password and press Enter.

The new password must comply with the configured password policy.

  1. Type the new password again to confirm it, then press Enter.

  1. After the password has been reset successfully, press Enter to exit the password reset utility. For SSH sessions, this will terminate the connection.
