About Workbench

Workbench includes a redesign of how you interact with policy data in Policy Planner. It introduces a more efficient, scalable, and data-rich experience powered by new backend APIs that enrich policy content displayed in the UI, while improving performance.

Supported Functionality

At GA, Workbench must be enabled using an API call with assistance from FireMon Support before it becomes visible in the Policy Planner interface.

The following functionality is available as part of the GA release:

Access Request is the only workflow supported.
At GA, when Workbench is enabled, only Access Request tickets can be processed. Other workflow ticket types are not supported. To work those tickets, disable Workbench.

  • Change Plan Editor: Introduces a Change Plan Editor that displays all rules and objects within a policy in a unified, table-based view. This allows you to create or modify rules and objects while maintaining visibility into the overall, normalized policy context.

  • Real-Time Change Plan Drawer: Provides a real-time list of design changes attached to the ticket. The drawer dynamically updates as users add, edit, or remove changes. The changes are grouped by device, serving as a continuous point of reference, like an online shopping cart. The panel shows all user-approved design changes while users continue browsing or making additional selections.

  • Bulk Delete within Change Plans: Enables you to remove multiple design changes from a change plan in a single action, simplifying user-based refinement of changes.

  • Change Plan Status Badges and Filters in Requirements List: Adds visual indicators to the collapsible Requirements List page, allowing you to quickly identify which requirements have associated change plans without needing to open each individual requirement. This update also adds filtering capabilities, enabling you to narrow results by requirement type and change plan status.

  • The Security Rules, Network, and Service Object list pages in Policy Editor currently display all objects associated with the selected device and policy. However, certain rules or objects (such as inline, derived, or rule group–protected rules) may not be editable in this release.

Workflow Tasks

In Workbench, tickets move through the workflow tasks in the same order as in legacy workflows.
